Career Exploration and Self-Assessment
Individual Career Advising and Counseling
We encourage M.B.A. students to make appointments for individual career counseling
sessions throughout the year. We'll discuss topics of importance to your self-assessment
process and job search. Topics include networking, targeting employers, focusing career
goals/self-assessment, effective resume and cover-letter writing and interviewing,
evaluating and negotiating employment offers and dual career concerns. The small size
of the Oregon M.B.A. student body means that each student has frequent opportunities
for personalized sessions.
Self Assessment
Career development is an evolving process which requires ongoing self-evaluation of your
values, interests, skills, and dreams. CareerLeader, a web-based assessment tool, is
available to all Oregon M.B.A. students.

Connections with Employers and Alumni
Employer Visitations
Our employer site visit program allows M.B.A. students to learn more about the management,
work environment, products/services, and strategic direction of a company. These programs
offer students the opportunity to hear directly from and network with key organizational
contacts to facilitate career exploration and uncover potential work opportunities.
Oregon M.B.A. Network
Our web-based network serves two functions: as a communication link between alumni, and as a
resource for currently enrolled students to learn about various career paths. After registering,
feel free to search the database, identify individuals with whom you would like to network, and
initiate contact. In addition, we invite alumni back to campus to share career advice with current
students. And we host regional student-alumni receptions to facilitate mentoring relationships.

Jobs, Internships, and Consulting Experiences
Campus Recruiting and Company Information Sessions
We maintain valuable relationships with major employers from the region and beyond who recruit
M.B.A. students from the Lundquist College of Business. Of course, students can also seek out
employers beyond those that visit campus. The Career Services staff will teach students how to
pursue all positions and organizations in which they have an interest.
Lundquist Career Services Publications
Each quarter we publish print and web versions of our newsletter. Each newsletter showcases students,
faculty, and alums within the Lundquist college. We also distribute a weekly e-newsletter to current
business students that highlights career and internship listings received, information about upcoming
career related events, and announcements from Lundquist Career Services.
Job and Internship Databases and Postings
Employers contact the University of Oregon to advertise full-time positions and internships for candidates
from the Oregon M.B.A. program. The Career Services Office regularly posts these opportunities on an intranet
site exclusively for current M.B.A. students. The university-wide Career Center also maintains a searchable
database of positions that is continually updated with new postings from a wide variety of employers.
Summer Internships
We strongly encourage M.B.A. students to seek internships to supplement academic study with practical experience
in private, public, and non-profit organizations. Assistance in landing the right internship is always available.
Interns can be of great value to employers who have short-term project needs during the summer.
Student Consulting Projects – The Oregon M.B.A. “Strategic Planning Project"
The centerpiece of experiential learning in the winter and spring terms of the first year is the Strategic Planning
Project (SPP) which pairs up teams of three-four students with a Northwest business. Wherever a company sees a growth
opportunity or barrier, the student consultants will research and analyze the situation and present their conclusions
to senior management.
Oregon Business Assistance Corps
In keeping with the Lundquist College's commitment to experiential learning, the Oregon Business Assistance Corps (OBAC)
affords paid consulting opportunities to MBA students. Oregon state agencies and private businesses contract with OBAC
for consulting services in a number of areas, including:
- Business Planning
- Process Analysis
- Value Stream Mapping
- Asset Allocation
- Time & Space Allocation
- Communications Assessment
Students work autonomously under the mentorship of a faculty expert. Consulting assignments are scheduled throughout
the calendar year. For some, a summer consulting gig might be a nice alternative to an internship. Students have a chance
to apply the lessons of the classroom and of their Strategic Planning Project to another real-life situation -- and
get paid for doing so.
